Taiji

Alternative Term:
太极

Birthed from Wuji, Taiji (太极) is regarded as the highest conceivable principle, the source from which existence flows. This “supreme ultimate” gives rise to both Yin and Yang: Yang emerges from movement, reaching its zenith before transitioning into tranquillity. From this tranquillity, Yin arises. When Yin reaches its peak, movement is rekindled. This cyclical interplay between movement and tranquillity sustains each other’s existence, forming the core essence of Taiji. This concept is fundamental in Chinese philosophy and metaphysics, illustrating the dynamic balance that underpins the universe.
